Service Description
Through this five session oil painting course students will not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural, marks to achieve the effect of the materiality of oil painting: consistency, thickness, texture, etc. They will create a background of visual texture and construct forms using their imagination. Colours of background and form will apply theory of colour and the elements of design such as: line, shape, colour, value, tone, texture and depth and also the design principles such as: balance, contrast, movement, rhythm, proportion and unity. These elements and principles form the nucleus of an art composition. Each session lasts 3 hours with a 15 minutes break in the middle. Cost $250 per student - groups of 5 students / $550 one student. Includes some materials Saturdays from 2 to 5 pm / contact: maria.penabriceno@gmail.com for details DAY 1: 2 exercises on canvas pads, applying 2 different techniques in order to achieve a rich, visual and relief texture backgrounds Overlapping colours, scratching surface, creating reliefs with the spatula or with a roller 2 compositions with background and form in the canvas pads. One inspired on Ecuadorian painting Fernando de Szyszlo and a second one inspired on Deutch painter Nicolas De Stale DAY 2: Students will take two exercises from previous class inspired on the painters De Szyszlo and De Stale, and create a sketch for their first abstract composition Starting the background and first layers on the canvas. Applying the elements of design: line, shape, colour, tone and depth into the composition DAY 3: Experimenting with textures and reliefs on the canvas Surface Starting the abstract design on the canvas DAY 4: Continuing the abstract painting composition on canvas. Building more layers and giving stronger tones and definition to contrast. Explanation of balance, contrast, movement, rhythm, emphasis, proportion and unity, and applying these concepts into the composition. DAY 5: Finishing the abstract painting composition Building more layers, more tones and glazing Last touches Glass of wine
